nourished minds counseling + wellness January 2024 newsletter

Happy New Year!

It’s hard to believe that we’re already a few weeks into 2024. I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that you’re ready to take on the new year ahead.

This time of year can often bring on a lot of anxiety. Everyone is making resolutions, setting goals and trying to be a “better” version of themselves. But amidst the New Year buzz of goals and resolutions, let’s not forget that the real magic happens when we focus on intentions.

While a goal is an outcome you want to attain in the future, an intention is a chosen theme that helps you create alignment in your life. Unlike surface-level achievements (like saving money or getting organized), intentions guide you to focus on your values and what truly matters to you, sparking real and life-changing transformations within yourself!

When you live and work according to your values, you’ll not only feel more connected to your goals or intentions for the new year, you’ll also be more likely to achieve what you set out to do!

At Nourished Minds Counseling + Wellness, we aim to always connect our work to our values. These values include:

  • Being of service to others with the highest quality care

  • Commitment to social justice

  • Ongoing learning to stay up-to-date on evidence-based practices

  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive community

It’s these values that lead us to consistently expand and evolve our services for our clients. As we look ahead to 2024, I invite you to read on for a few news updates, including:

1. We have welcomed a new therapist, Bridget McAdams, to the Nourished Minds Counseling + Wellness team.
2. We have partnered with Kate Sweeney, a registered dietitian, to provide exposure coaching to clients who struggle with eating disorders and OCD.
3. We have tips to help you live in alignment with your values.

Thank you for your support and as always, be in touch to let me know if you have questions or feedback.

Be well,
Karen

Welcoming Bridget McAdams (LCSW)

Bridget McAdams

We are so excited to welcome Bridget McAdams, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), to the Nourished Minds team. Bridget specializes in treating young adults struggling with eating disorders, complex trauma, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, OCD and personality disorders.

She received her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Boston College. Prior to joining Nourished Minds, Bridget worked at Monte Nido Laurel Hill, a residential eating disorder facility. There, she provided individual, group and family therapy to clients recovering from eating disorders.

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Bridget enjoys working with young adults as they navigate their experience and expression of gender and sexuality. She is a sex-positive and kink-allied therapist and is dedicated to continued anti-racist education and the use of knowledge of systems of oppression and their impact on individual and community health in my clinical practice and life.

We are so happy to have Bridget join the Nourished Minds Counseling + Wellness team and look forward to the positive impact she will make on our client community!

Exposure Coaching for OCD & Eating Disorders

Kate Sweeney, exposure coaching

We’re excited to be partnering with Kate Sweeney, a registered dietitian and owner of Kate Sweeney Nutrition. Kate is an exposure coach who can provide additional support to our clients who struggle with eating disorders and OCD.

Kate received a Master of Science in Nutrition Communication from The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tufts University.

She has worked as a dietitian for 10 years and has found that traditional meal support and even nutrition therapy techniques often do not meet the needs of many clients with OCD and EDs. Kate engaged in specialized training to increase her skill set to better help individuals struggling with both disorders.

She has received advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), all of which are evidence-based treatments.

Visit our website to read Kate’s full bio and learn more about exposure coaching.

Karen's Mental Health Bite

Karen Chinca, Brookline therapist

As I mentioned at the beginning of this newsletter, getting clear on your personal values and how you want to live your life offers many benefits.

It can help you make healthier, values-driven choices, which will ultimately help you live a more fulfilling life.

Spend some time this month sitting and thinking about what your values are. This would be a great journaling prompt or a great thing to talk about during a therapy session!
